Genesis 37-38

Today we will read Chapter 37-38.

Today we will read the 4th figure in Genesis. Like we mentioned in the class a few weeks ago, Genesis can be summarized as 4 events and 4 persons. The 4 events are God’s creation, Fall of Man, God’s Judgment and Arrogance of Man, from chapter 1-11. The 4 persons are Abraham, Issac, Jacob and Joseph, from chapter 12-50.

Joseph was loved by his father Jacob, but envied and hated by his brothers. They sold him as slave to Egypt and told their father that the wild beast ate him. Jacob was horrified and heartbroken when heard the news.

Favoritism had apparently been an issue in the family. Earlier we found that Issac favored Esau and Rebekah favored Jacob. Rebekah even encouraged Jacob to cheat his father for the firstborn blessing. Jacob had to flee to his uncle Laban’s house for many years because of that. Now Jacob favored Joseph as he was born by the wife he loved most Rachel. As parents, we see that favoritism will cause many issues in the family and it’s not biblical. In Roman 2:11, For God does not show favoritism. James 2:1. For brothers and sisters, believers in our Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.

Day By Day with Billy Graham – Lean on the Rock
When you become a Christian, it doesn’t mean that you will live on a perpetual “high.” The Psalmist David went down to the very depths, and so did the Apostle Paul. But in the midst of all circumstances God’s grace, peace, and joy are there. The tears will still come, the pressures will be felt, and so will the temptations. But there is a new dimension, a new direction, and a new power in life to face the circumstances in which you live.

Daily Prayer
David and Paul have given me the example of trusting You, Lord, even in the excruciating valleys of life. Like them, I praise You.
[9:31 AM]
“from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I,”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭61:2‬ ‭ESV‬‬
